The Azerbaijani government actively promotes religious tolerance, says the report on religious freedom in countries around the world for 2009, published by the U.S. State Department Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.
According to the report, the Azerbaijani State Committee for Religious Organizations (SCRO) has met several times with leaders of various religious communities. In 2009, the SCRO organized seminars, conferences and regional meetings on religious freedom and tolerance.
The report also notes the absence of reports of anti-Semitism.
The report also states that all ethnic Azerbaijanis fled the territories occupied by the Armenian forces, and some mosques in these territories have been destroyed.
