The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs should bring the fact of the Azerbaijani child's murder by Armenians to the world public, head of the Azerbaijani Community in Nagorno-Karabakh Bayram Safarov said in an interview with the ruling New Azerbaijan party's website.
A 9-year-old resident of the Orta Garvand village in the Agdam region was killed on March 8 as a result of a ceasefire violation by the troops. Fariz Badalov was shot in the head while playing in his yard. He was taken to hospital, but doctors failed to save his life.
"The co-chair's visiting Badalov's family is a positive fact. But the co-chairs should not be satisfied with this, and must bring the brutality of the Armenian side to the world's attention," he said.
Safarov believes if effective measures are not taken against Armenia in the framework of international norms, then such cases may recur.
"Therefore, the OSCE Minsk Group should reflect the realities in a report prepared in connection with this incident. The child's murder by Armenian snipers is contrary to international norms, principles of humanity and human values. This act cannot be justified, and the co-chairs should do everything so that the world community knows about these child killers," Safarov said.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
