CIS Defence Ministers to Meet in St-Petersburg

Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, 2 July /corr. Trend R.Meshedihasanli / The next 55th meeting of the CIS Council of Defence Ministers will take place in October in St-Petersburg. Such a decision was made in the 54th meeting of the Defence Ministers in Bishkek on 2 July.

The meeting focused on more than twenty questions concerning different directions of co-operation of the defence departments of the CIS participating countries. The sides approved a new editorial staff of Charter on regulations of organizing and conducting repairing military equipment in repair enterprises of the CIS Defence Ministries. Decisions were made on project of Charter on actions of on-duty forces of the CIS air forces while obtaining information on seizure of aircraft by terrorists, on the project of Agreement on co-operation on investigation of aviation incidents.

Considering the importance of the development of integration processes in the military sphere, Ministers of Defence discussed the issue of creating exchange system of military science information between the Defence Ministries, approved the bases of interaction of archive services, as well as made a decision preparing changes and additions to the Agreement on co-operation regarding guarantee of unity of measurements and co-ordinated policy in the sphere of standardization, metrology and certification in the armed forces of the CIS participating countries.

Within the preparation for the celebration of 65th anniversary of victory in the World War II, a Regulation was approved on conducting inspection competition of the national museums of the armed forces of the CIS countries. During the meeting, the Defence Ministers approved the results of the activity of CIS Coordination Committee for Air Defence on realization of basic directions in development of the united air defence system of the CIS countries for a period until 2010, approved the plan of joint measures of the operational training of the CIS armed forces for 2009 as well as long-term plan of the joint sport measures of the CIS States.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Defence of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan, and as the observers - the heads of the defense departments of Moldova, Turkmenistan and Ukraine.
