Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 July / corr. Trend I.Alizade / The ruling Azerbaijani party expects a monitoring mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which will observe the presidential elections on 15 October, to give unbiased assessment about the elections.

"The PACE has always given biased assessment to the elections held in Azerbaijan. This organization takes subjective position in favor of the Azerbaijani opposition and the Armenian Government and do not give unbiased assessment to the elections," MP Mubariz Gurbanli, the deputy executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), told journalists on 4 July.

The PACE Monitoring mission, including 38 people, will observe the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan. Andreas Herkel, the PACE rapporteur on Azerbaijan, will lead the mission.

The Azerbaijani Government, including the ruling party, repeatedly accused Herkel of biased attitude toward the ongoing developments in the country. Azerbaijani delegation at the PACE expressed its protest during the Bureau discussions on appointment of Herkel the head of the mission.

Gurbanli said that if the PACE monitoring mission would express unbiased opinion about the elections if is did not take into consideration the political and geopolitical interests.

"We are not concerned on the personality of the head of PACE monitoring mission, because we are sure that majority of electors will vote for Ilham Aliyev, a candidate from the NAP," the NAP representative said.
