Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 July / Trend corr E.Babayev/ Azerbaijan's opposition Democratic Reforms Party (DRP) will hold a meeting on 19 July to decide whether to participate in upcoming presidential elections. "The political party cannot boycott the elections and its key purpose must be participation in the elections," Chairman of DRP MP Asim Mollazade said to Trend on 14 July.
Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October. Musavat party has already nominated its Chairman Isa Gambar, Azerbaijan Democratic Party - Sardar Jalaloglu, the Greens Party nominated Mais Gulaliyev, the Popular Front Party of Unified Azerbaijan nominated Gudrat Hasanguliyev and Musair Musavat nominated Hafiz Hajiyev. The head of the public forum For Azerbaijan Eldar Namazov stands for presidency as an independent candidate. The governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) will nominate country's current President Ilham Aliyev. Pro-governmental parties Ana Vatan and Social Prosperity Party intend to support Ilham Aliyev at the elections. Bloc Azadlig uniting three opposition parties (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Citizen and Development Party, Liberal Party) intends to boycott the elections. The statement was put for discussion at the administration of the bloc to make a final decision.
Mollazade said the decision in which form DRP would participate in the elections would be made at the meeting. "Therefore, I cannot specify whether we will support somebody at the elections or will nominate our own candidate," he said. According to him, the meeting will also discuss organizing issues and will elect chairman and political council of the party. Mollazade did not specify whether he wants to take the chairman position: "Such issues will be clarified at the meeting," he said.
Azerbaijan Democratic Reforms Party was established in 2005. Party's program and activity direction are intended to realize liberal values. The Chairman of the Party is Asim Mollazade.
