E.Babayev/ Co-chairman of Azadlig bloc, including three opposition parties (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Citizen and Development Party, Liberal Party), Chairman of Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Ali Karimli said to Trend on 22 July that the doubts about bloc's decision to boycott the elections are ludicrous of the people having no idea about Azadlig's Charter. "In fact, bloc's administration cannot take decisions in spite of party's wish. Every party of the bloc is sovereign. If a party takes an independent decision, repeated discussion of the decision is nothing else but creation of intrigues," said Karimli. |
Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October. Musavat party has already nominated its Chairman Isa Gambar, Azerbaijan Democratic Party - Sardar Jalaloglu, the Greens Party nominated Mais Gulaliyev, the Popular Front Party of Unified Azerbaijan nominated Gudrat Hasanguliyev and Musair Musavat nominated Hafiz Hajiyev. The head of the public forum For Azerbaijan Eldar Namazov stands for presidency as an independent candidate. The governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) will nominate country's current President Ilham Aliyev. Pro-governmental parties Ana Vatan and Social Prosperity Party intend to support Ilham Aliyev at the elections. Opposition parties Vahdat and Taraggi also stated they would support Ilham Aliyev. Azerbaijan Democratic Reforms Party will participate in the elections as observer. Bloc Azadlig uniting three opposition parties (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Citizen and Development Party, Liberal Party) assembled its administration to make an official decision to boycott the elections. Problems occurred with administration's meeting and supreme bodies Azadlig's three parties approved last week of the decision of Chairmanship Council to boycott the elections.

According to Karimli, bloc Azadlig is a union of political parties, not a supreme structure of political parties. "The bloc takes those decisions which are made y bloc's parties. So, after political parties male a decision, the decison becomes Azadlig's position. As to current issues, they are being disucssed at the Chairmanship Council. But decision on any important issue is taken by collegil bodies of each party. Elections were also discussed by collegial bodies of every party. The decision completely complies with our Charter," he said. |
