Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 July / corr. Trend E.Babayev / A congress of the oppositional Azerbaijani Popular Front Party (APFP), which has been scheduled for September, is likely not to take place. "We hold conferences of our regional organizations to get prepared for congress with difficulty and it is too difficult to say an exact date of this congress," Ali Kerimli, the chairman of the APFP, told Trend on 23 July.

The APFP's congress will focus on organizational issues. Elections will be held for top positions at the party after the chairman's report. At the same time, this congress will mull over the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for October.

According to Kerimli, the authorities raise difficulties in holding conferences in regions. "Which plans can we make in this condition? For example, we plan to hold a conference in one of regions, whilst they impede it. It is too difficult to say an exact time of the congress in this condition," he said.

At present, the oppositional APFP is a member and co-founder of Azadlig bloc. Late Abulfaz Elchibey, the Azerbaijani ex-President was a founder and chairman of the party by 2000. Ex-MP Ali Karimli, former Secretary of State, is the chairman of the party since 2000.
