Azerbaijani Central Election Commission Calls Citizens to Take Active Participation  in Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 July / Trend corr. E.Babayev / Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) called citizens to take an active participation in the upcoming presidential elections. "All the necessary conditions to hold democratic elections are created in the country and I call citizens to take active participation in the elections. We believe that population will be active in the elections," Mazahir Panahov, Chairman in EC, told Trend on 28 July.

The decision to hold the presidential elections on 15 October was made in CEC today's meeting. CEC has approved the calendar plan of main arrangements to prepare and to hold the elections.

CEC Chairman said that any interference into the election process will be removed. "We have good experience to hold the elections. However, nobody is insured from troubles and violations. Therefore, we will make all the best to promote democratic elections," Panahov said. According to the recent supplements and changes into the Election Code, free air time for candidates will be allocated in the public TV. Furthermore, the candidates' posters are not allowed to stick to dwellings and historical buildings.

Panahov stated that the conditions will be created for Azerbaijanis residing abroad to vote. "Election centres will be opened in the countries where Azerbaijan has its Embassy or Counsel," Panahov said.
