Azerbaijan’s Parliament Approves Appointment of New Prime Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 October/ Trend , corr I. Alizade/ Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan approved appointment of Artur Rasizade to the post of Prime Minister with 101 votes for, 2 against and 1 abstention on 28 October.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dismissed the government after he was re-elected. Azerbaijan held presidential election on 15 October. Candidate from ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev won the election.

President of Azerbaijan has submitted the parliament the nomination of Artur Rasizade to the post of prime minister for approval.

Artur Tahir oglu Rasizade was born in 1935 in Ganja. Rasizada was a long-time Communist Party member during the Azerbaijan SSR period. After graduating from Azerbaijan's Industry Institute named after M. Azizbayov in 1957, he worked as an engineer in Oil Engineering Institute of Azerbaijan. In 1973, he was promoted to the deputy director for scientific work and director in 1977. He worked in State Planning Committee of Azerbaijan from 1978 to 1981.

He was first deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan from 1986 to 1992. In May 1996, he was appointed first deputy Prime Minister once again and Prime Minister on 26 November of the same year.

In August 2003, Artur Rasizade resigned enabling Ilham Aliyev to assume the office and acted as first Vice Prime Minister of Azerbaijan for three months.
