Baku hosted the third meeting of the Working Group on the Coast Guard of the International Conference on Border Issues.

The meeting was attended by experts from border services of eight countries (Azerbaijan, Estonia, Finland, Germany, the United States, Russia, Turkey and Georgia) and the EU agency for border security, FRONTEX, the press service of State Border Service told Trend .

The two-day meeting focused on the issues concerning the protection of oil and gas fields and infrastructure in the sea, and the sharing of experiences on methods for analysis of conditions in the maritime domain, as well as discussions about future plans of the working group.

After the meeting, participants visited Azerbaijan State Border Service's Coast Guard Base.

The meeting participants decided to continue the discussion of issues related to border security at sea in the future, and meet for the 4th meeting in Baku in October 2010.

Working group's main task is to provide appropriate assistance to enhance the protection of water boundaries, explore the legal framework for the Coast Guard, the exchange of positive experiences and information, more effective prevention of traffic of illegal migrants, drugs, contraband, weapons, weapons of mass destruction and their components through the water borders.
