Unfortunately, the West does not understand that Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev brings stability to the country, Director of the Russia-Eurasia Center of the Council on Foreign Relations of Germany and Trend Expert Council member Alexander Rahr believes.

The West does not value the fact that Nazarbayev refrained from changing the Constitution and did not support his subordinates, who offered him to stay in power for his entire life, he added.

"The West looks at Central Asia from a critical position not understanding the subtleties of the Central Asian countries. I should note that Nazarbayev has a special role in historical terms, as the creator of the nation," Rahr told Trend over the telephone from Berlin.

Presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on Sunday. According to the CEC's preliminary information, Nazarbayev leads with 95.5 percent of the votes.

Votes for the other three candidates are as following: Zhambyl Ahmatbekov - 1.4 percent of the votes, Mels Eleusizov- 1.2 percent, while Gani Kasimov - 1.9 percent.

According to Kazakh law, the final results should be presented no later than April 12.

Rahr said pluralism and a multiparty system are most likely to appear in the future in Kazakhstan, as the country seeks to uphold Western values.

"Today, I do not see any other presidential candidate, who enjoys the unconditional trust of the people like Nazarbayev and who could be a guarantor of stability for the country," Rahr said.
