The Turkmen Parliament adopted a resolution on its ratification procedures, particularly in regard to Turkmenistan's approval of a number of international documents, an official Turkmen source reported.
The parliament adopted a resolution "On Ratification of the Agreement between Turkmenistan and Belarus on the Mutual Protection of Classified Information".
The State's decision to sign the agreement was geared toward protecting secret and classified information, which would be created and exchanged in political, military, military-technical, economic or other areas of cooperation.
Turkmenistan and Belarus have increased mutual cooperation and upheld high-level visits to their respective countries, during which the sides held an inventory of their mutual legal frameworks and signed a series of intergovernmental agreements.
So far, a Belarusian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation has been established.
Turkmenistan actively buys Amkodor tractor and automobile factory products, and road machinery, in Minsk. Belarus's electric equipment, furniture and pharmaceutical products are sold in the Turkmen market. In turn, Turkmen cotton and cotton yarn, textiles, wool and petroleum products are exported to Belarus.
Direct flights, interrupted for 15 years between Ashgabat and Minsk, were resumed in August 2007. One of the biggest joint projects is a construction project of a mining and processing complex, with a capacity of 1.4 million tons of fertilizer per year. This project is conducted by "Belgorkhimprom" in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan. The implementation of the first stage of the mining and processing complex is estimated to be $1 billion.
The construction began in the summer and is planned to be completed within the next five years.
