Armenia's interests must not violate the rights of Azerbaijan - Turkey's fraternal country, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during the PACE spring session, as reported by CCN Turk.
"The main point of implementing the Turkish-Armenian protocols is to liberate Azerbaijan's lands occupied by Armenia," he said. It has been indicated in the protocols."
He said that as soon as the Armenian side fulfills this important condition, Turkey will immediately open its borders.
"We call for the OSCE Minsk Group to fulfill its obligations," he said. As soon as Russia, France and the U.S. do this, we will find a solution to the Nagorno Karabakh problem."
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
