Azerbaijan, Baku, April 23 / Trend T. Hajiyev /

The unity of the Azerbaijani opposition is impossible, deputy chairman, executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov told media.

"The efforts of the opposition in this direction are meaningless, because they differently perceive the concept of "opposition"," he said. "The parties and groups, calling themselves opposition and referring to the different political ideologies and principles, operate in Azerbaijan. Therefore, their unity is impossible. Azerbaijan's current political realities have proved this. The opposition parties put forward the idea of uniting different forms almost 20 years. But their union was impossible all these years".

He said that one of the factors, hampering the unification of the opposition, is that, despite the radical opposition party sufficiently lost support in the society, they make claims, not corresponding to their abilities.

"This also rather complicates the unification of these parties," he said. "Despite their loud statements, uniting of opposition parties was and will be the empty talks".

Ahmadov also voiced his opinion towards Musavat party head Isa Gambar's appeal to the Baku executive power to hold talks. Ahmadov called his appeal unfounded.
"Isa Gambar has the opportunity to negotiate with people in his entourage from morning till night," he said. "They are already engaged in idle talk. Sometimes, they talk to Ali Kerimli or quarrel with him. Can Isa Gambar decide to negotiate with anyone? Isa Gambar must realize whether people, with whom he wants to negotiate, want to talk with him. Isa Gambar and the people around him do not have enough strength to make somebody negotiate with them. It is absolutely inappropriate to write a letter to someone about holding the negotiations. In extreme cases, Isa Gambar can ask for the venue for holding rallies".
