The ruling New Azerbaijan party will announce its candidate for the presidency in accordance with the electoral legislation, Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament and deputy executive secretary of the ruling party Bahar Muradova told the media today.
"We do not care about the opposition's concerns," she said while answering the question why the ruling party has not announced its candidate at the celebration ceremony of the 20th anniversary of the ruling party. "We will announce our candidate in accordance with the electoral legislation when the time comes. So it does not matter how the opposition perceives this."
She said that incumbent President Ilham Aliyev is certain to be the ruling party candidate.
"All members of the ruling party, all citizens supporting this party, all Azerbaijani citizens supporting the policy pursued by Ilham Aliyev, want to see him as the president for the next five years," she said.
The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan in 2013.
