Representatives of Azerbaijani Diaspora to Participate at Opening of Memorial Complex Devoted to Jewish Genocide in Babiy Yar

The opening ceremony of the memorial complex devoted to the Genocide of the Jews in Babiy Yar (Ukraine) is expected to be held with the participation of Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko on September 27, 2006, Ogtay Efendiyev, Chairman of the Ukrainian Congress of Azerbaijanis told Trend today.

The Chairman of the Ukrainian Congress of Azerbaijanis himself is also expected to take part at the event. Ukraine`s Prime-Minister Viktor Yanukovich, MPs of Ukraine`s Verkhovna Rada, social and political activists, as well as representatives of a number of countries will be held at the forthcoming ceremony. The leadership of the Ukrainian Congress of Azerbaijanis was also invited to participate at the event where Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko to participate. The participation of many other countries expected along with the delegation of the officials from Azerbaijan, told. Mr. O. Efendiyev.

Mr. Efendiyev is expected to give a speech during the arrangement. The Head of the Diaspora Organization in Ukraine will express the solidarity of the Azerbaijani people with the Jewish people, and bring to the attention of the all who will participate at the event the Azerbaijani sympathy with their tragedy and the Azerbaijani understanding of the meaning of genocide during the event devoted to the memory of 300.000 killed Jews in this place of Ukraine. The Azerbaijanis has also been subjected to genocide by Armenians several times in their history. Both in XIX and XX centuries, thousands of Azerbaijanis became victims of Armenian bandits. In addition, in the beginning of the 1990s, one of the horrible tragedies of the whole XX century - the Khodjali Genocide took place.
