The First Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, Valeriy Chechelashvili, was elected the Secretary-General of the Organization for Democracy & Economic Development - GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) in a meeting of the Council of GUAM in New York, Trend Special Correspondent in Tbilisi reports.
At the resolution of the Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko, the Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili was awarded Order of For Services' of the 1st Grade.
At the end of the meeting, talks on the GUAM-U.S. format was agreed. David Kramer, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State represented the U.S. in the meeting which focused on further co-operation in this format.
