Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 July / Trend corr E.Babayev/ A program envisaging reforms at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NASA) is being developed. "According to the program, some institutions may be eliminated and new ones may be established at the Academy," NASA President Mahmud Karimov said on 2 July.

In recent years Academy's several institutions were eliminated, several were unified. As a result, about 1,500 people were discharged from work. Currently, 9,509 people work at the Academy. NASA includes over 30 institutions, scientific centres and museums.

According to Karimov, the program will also reflect such issues as management and financing for science. He did not divulge the institutions to be eliminated and did not specify how new ones would be established. "We are working in this connection. It is too early to say anything about final results. Probably, several institutions will unify," said Karimov.
