Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 July / Trend / K.Zarbaliyeva / The Azerbaijani Constitutional Court should be careful while making sentences on the elections, Gianni Buquicchio, Secretary General of the Venice Commission, said at the international conference, held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Constitutional Court (CC) on 14 July. He said that any incorrect decision by the Constitutional Court might cause political collapse and discontent among the Azerbaijani people and the Constitutional Court should take unbiased decisions on the elections. Buquicchio hopes that the elections will be held in transparent and fair conditions in Azerbaijan. The Secretary General of the Venice Commission said that the Constitutional Court's decision should be accepted by other organizations and a special mechanism should be determined to execute these decisions.
The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for 15 October. The Central Elections Commission will announce an exact date of the elections at the end of July.
So far, the Musavat Party has nominated Isa Gambar, the Azerbaijani Democratic Party (ADP) - Sardar Jaliloglu and the Green Party - Mais Gulaliyev, the Azerbaijani Unified Popular Front Party - Gudrat Hasanguliyev, and Muasir Musavat - Hafiz Hajiyev. Eldar Namazov, the head of Social Forum of 'For Azerbaijan' will participate independently in the elections. The ruling New Azerbaijan Party, intends to nominate Ilham Aliyev, its chairman and the current Azerbaijani President. The pro-government Ana Veten and Social Prosperity Parties decided to support Aliyev's candidature in the elections. Azadlig bloc, uniting three oppositional parties (the Popular Front, the Civil Development and the Liberal party), stated that they would boycott the elections. This decision will be presented to the Majlis of the bloc for consideration and the final decision will be taken.
