Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 July/ Trend , corr A. Aliyev/ The Azerbaijani gold medal winners of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be rewarded AZN 200,000 by the National Olympic Committee and AZN 400,000 each by the government, Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan said in the seeing off ceremony of the Azerbaijani sportsmen for the 29th Beijing2008Olympic Games.

"The point is not the sum, but the love for motherland, patriotism and the philosophy of being an Azerbaijani. The economic growth of Azerbaijan enables us to grant our sportsmen big amount of rewards," President Ilham Aliyev said, stressing assurance that the sportsmen will represent Azerbaijan in the Olympic Games on high level.

The Head of State stressed that the care toward the sports is increasing day by day. He noted that the success of our sportsmen is not of accidental natures, but the result of expedient measures. "The sport has become an integral part of Azerbaijan's public life and sportsmen enjoy great respect in our society," President said. Azerbaijan is well-known all over the world as a sport country and the heads of the authoritative sport organizations also admit this fact.

The Head of State also stated that the organizations involved in sport in Azerbaijan are working on the basis of a unified conception. The increase in the sport potential is important for the comprehensive development of Azerbaijan. Therefore, favorable conditions have been provided for the conduct of international competitions in Azerbaijan, including its regions, he said.

"The Olympic Games are big sport event. The international Olympic family considers Azerbaijan a sport country. The development of sport in Azerbaijan is a matter of government significance," President Ilham Aliyev said.
