Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 15 / Trend M.Aliyev /

The flex program which allows high school students to spend a fully-funded year living and studying in an American community will begin at the end of this week, the U.S embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend .

Finalists will be chosen from around the Republic of Azerbaijan to spend the 2010-2011 academic year in the U.S. Finalists will receive round-trip travel from their homes to the United States, and a monthly allowance for living expenses.

There are three rounds of testing altogether. The first round of testing is a 15-minute test of English, which will be offered in six cities on seven different days, see below. The second round of testing generally takes place the following day. This year, all students who are citizens of Azerbaijan, born between 1 January 1993 and 15 July 1995 who are studying in the 9th, 10th or 11th forms and have not been in the United States for more than 3 months in the past 5 years are eligible for the program. Students with disabilities are also encouraged to apply.

The FLEX program, which has been run by American Councils in Azerbaijan with the support of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Education and the US Department of State for 18 years, gives students a unique opportunity to experience life in the United States and to share information about Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani culture with Americans.
