The Azerbaijani State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations rebuffed reports about closure of the Turkish mosque in Baku.
The reports about closure of the Turkish mosque the Mehdiabad settlement of the Absheron region contradicts the reality, Spokesman of the State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations Yagut Aliyeva told Trend on Oct.20.
The mosque was not closed and continues to operate, Aliyeva added.
The media reports urged the closure of the Turkish mosque the Mehdiabad settlement on Oct.17.
Head of the religious community of the Mehdiabad settlement Ismayil Suleymanov confirmed the closure of the mosque saying that the Mehdiabad executive power instructed them to close the mosque on Oct.17. "There have been no prayers at the mosque since then. The officials said that the mosque will be restored and asked to close the mosque," Suleymanov added.
The Turkish Religious (Diyanet) Foundation built the mosque in 1999.
