Azerbaijani court sentenced the person presenting himself as an employee of the Ministry of National Security (MNS). On Nov. 11, the Court on Serious Crimes sentenced a resident of Terter region, Firdovsi Mammadov, accused under article 178.3.2 (fraud) of the Criminal Code, to 11 years in prison.
Mammadov deceived seven people, presenting himself as a colonel of the MNS. He received money from these people under the pretext of liberation of their relatives from the imprisonment. On Oct. 6, 2008, he received $15,000 from a resident of Barda district Vugar Jafarov.
He also took $2,400 from a resident of Barda district Zulfia Sadigova in order to facilitate punishment of her relative in prison. The accused was arrested on 14 October last year.
