Azerbaijan , Baku, April 28/ Trend, M. Aliyev
In the future, the Azerbaijani State Students Admission Commission (SSAC) may assign extra marks to university entrants who graduated secondary schools with gold and silver medals, SSAC Chairperson Maleyka Abbaszadeh told Trend.
"Once entrance examinations are over, the SSAC will compare the results of university entrants to their marks in school graduation certificate. If these results illustrate that the marks are fair, we will be able to amend the rules of admission and add extra marks to the results of school graduates," Abbaszadeh said.
According to her , the Law " On Education " permits only the winners of school Olympics , international contests and high - level competitions to enter high schools without taking an entrance examination.
"Given that the situation with giving marks in schools improves from year to year, we hope that the SSAC will be able to start assigning extra marks to university entrants, who demonstrate excellent results at school and confirm them at entrance examination, in the near 2-3 years," the commission said.
"The results of last year's entrance examinations illustrate that as concerning giving marks in schools not everything is perfect," she said.
Earlier this month, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the images of the gold and silver medals for particular achievements in study.
In its resolution, the Cabinet of Ministers said 3-millimeter thick 40-millimeter diameter gold and silver medals shall be manufactured for those who graduate from the secondary school with honors.
School graduates who are said worthy of being awarded with a medal will receive it at the school leavers' award ceremony depending on the results of common centralized school leaving examinations of the 2010/2011 educational year.
