Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Religious Associations Deputy Chairman Gunduz Ismayilov said Azerbaijanis are concerned with the establishment of the Georgian Muslim Department.
"The Caucasus Muslims Office has voiced concerns to the Georgian side. We believe that this question will not cause negative effects," he said at a roundtable discussion titled "Integrating Azerbaijani residents of Georgia into the local community in the context of Azerbaijani-Georgian strategic partnership " in Batumi on Monday.
The event is being held as part of the 20th anniversary celebration for the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence.
The issues related to the recognition of Muslim communities will also be addressed following the upcoming changes to the Georgian legislation, along with the elimination of the other communities' problems.
Georgia established its religious control of Muslim communities.
Earlier, Press Secretary of the Board of Muslims of Georgia Mikheil Cheladze said this NGO is created to monitor the activities of Muslim communities in the country. Mosques in Georgia also are subordinated to this office.
