Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend К.Zarbaliyeva / Elchin Behbudov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani anti-Torture Committee, met with Ali Insanov, the former Azerbaijani Health Minister, who has been imprisoned in the No. 1 investigation cell.

Behbudov reported that Insanov had been complaining of ill-health and frequent spinal pain. In spite of Insanov's appeals to the Penal Service's direction to transfer the Minister to the medical center, this request was originally rejected. Behbudov said that he would appeal to the President.

The court trial involving Azerbaijan's former Health Minister, Ali Insanov, will be held under the chairmanship of Salman Heseynov, the Judge, in the Azerbaijani Appeal Court on 3 July.

The former Health Minister was arrested for his involvement in a coup d'etat and intent of mass disruption in October 2005. In 2007 the Court charged Insanov with corruption and he was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment, including the confiscation of his property.

The medical examination confirmed that Insanov has a spine hernia.
