Azerbaijan's retail trade turnover rides through roof

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. From January through July 2024, Azerbaijan's retail trade turnover increased by 3.4 percent compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 32.263 manat billion, or $18.978 billion, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, turnover for food, beverages, and tobacco products rose by 1.9 percent to 17.8 billion manat, or $10.47 billion, while turnover for non-food goods increased by 5.3 percent to 14.5 billion manat, or $8.5 billion.

During the reporting period, consumer spending was allocated as follows: 50.6 percent on food products, 4.6 percent on beverages and tobacco products, 12.8 percent on textiles, clothing, and footwear, 5.6 percent on motor fuel, 4.8 percent on electrical goods and furniture, 2.3 percent on pharmaceutical goods and medicines, 1.2 percent on computers, and 18.1 percent on other non-food products.

The value of goods sold by economic entities in the non-state sector grew by 3.4 percent compared to 2023 and accounted for 99.7 percent of the total retail trade turnover.

The average monthly per capita retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan was 452.2 manat or $266, with 249.5 manat or $146.7 allocated to food, beverages, and tobacco products, and 202.7 manat or $119.2 to non-food products.

To note, in 2023, retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan increased by 3.7 percent compared to 2022, reaching 58.997 billion manat, or $34.7 billion. Turnover for food, beverages, and tobacco products grew by 2.5 percent to 33 billion manat, or $19.4 billion, while non-food products saw a 5.2 percent increase to 26 billion manat, or $15.29 billion.
