BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 16. Azerbaijan imported 579,920 tons of wheat from January through August 2024, a decrease of 13.23 percent (88,390 tons) compared to the same period in 2023.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan shows that the value of these wheat imports was over $128.3 million, which represents a 30.08 percent reduction ($55.2 million) from last year.
Over this period, wheat imports made up 1.01 percent of Azerbaijan's overall import total.
From January through August this year, the value of Azerbaijan's food product imports increased by 9.9 percent ($138 million), totaling $1.5 billion.
In 2023, Azerbaijan imported 1.17 million tons of wheat, a 9.1 percent decrease (117,655 tons) from 2022.
