BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. Kazakhstani companies have been awarded a cumulative total of $3.52 billion in procurement contracts for goods, works, and consulting services under Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan, grant, and technical assistance projects as of December 31, 2023, Trend reports.
This figure reflects Kazakhstan’s growing role in regional infrastructure and development, accounting for 1.27% of ADB’s total procurement spending.
In 2023 alone, Kazakhstani firms secured $2.61 million in contracts, down from $79.58 million in 2022. These contracts cover both goods, works, and related services, as well as consulting services for ADB-funded initiatives. Despite the year-on-year decline in the overall procurement value, Kazakhstan’s cumulative involvement remains substantial.
Of the total procurement, goods, works, and related services accounted for the majority, with a cumulative value of $3.49 billion, representing 1.34% of ADB’s total procurement for these categories. In 2022, Kazakhstan received $76.49 million for such contracts, though this figure dropped to $1.18 million in 2023. The cumulative procurement highlights Kazakhstan’s pivotal role in delivering infrastructure projects, especially in transport and energy.
Kazakhstan’s consulting firms have also contributed significantly, securing a cumulative total of $30.24 million in contracts, or 0.19% of ADB’s total consulting procurement. In 2023, Kazakhstani consultants received $1.43 million, a slight drop from $3.09 million in 2022.
With a total procurement value exceeding $3.5 billion, Kazakhstan continues to be a key partner in delivering ADB-financed development projects across the region.
Meanwhile, as of December 31, 2023, ADB has committed a total of $6 billion to Kazakhstan through 131 public sector loans, grants, and technical assistance projects. ADB's current sovereign portfolio in the country consists of three loans totaling $452.2 million. Additionally, ADB has provided $865 million in nonsovereign financing across 38 transactions.
