BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 28. The volume of cargo transported by the railway line managed by Iran's North-Eastern Railway Administration increased by 25 percent compared to the same period last year during the first six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024), the director general of Iran's North-Eastern Railway Department, Mohammad Reza Habibi said, Trend reports.

According to him, a total of 331,000 tons of cargo were transported on this railway line during this period, with 213,000 tons classified as international cargo and 84,000 tons as local cargo.

Habibi reported a significant 78 percent increase in transit activity, primarily between the CIS and Arab countries, with 9,000 tons of cargo transiting.

The railway official noted that the transported goods mainly included iron ore, ceramics, cement, and polyethylene products.

He highlighted that connecting the railway line to nearby cement plants could potentially increase cement exports to CIS countries.

To note, the North-Eastern Railway line is located in the territory of the Gulustan and Mazandaran provinces of Iran.
