ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 5. The Republic of Korea is among the top 5 largest investors in Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Chung Eui-yong, emphasized this fact during their bilateral negotiations.
During his official visit to the Republic of Korea, Murat Nurtleu first met with the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol. Throughout the course of the meeting, the President of the Republic of Korea highlighted the importance of further strengthening multifaceted cooperation with Kazakhstan to bolster the Kazakhstan-South Korea strategic mutually beneficial partnership.
In turn, Murat Nurtleu conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to the leader of the Republic of Korea, noting that South Korea is an important and reliable partner in the Asian region. The two countries have built a strong political dialogue over more than 30 years of diplomatic relations.
On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan held bilateral talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Chung Eui-yong. The talks emphasized that the recent state visit by the President of South Korea to Kazakhstan provided a strong impetus for further developing relations between the two countries. The two countries' bilateral trade volume reached $6 billion last year.
The discussion revealed that Kazakhstan and South Korea are already collaborating on the development of the IT park "Astana Hub" and the establishment of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. South Korean universities, including SeoulTech University, are planning to support the opening of new educational and research institutions in Kazakhstan.
Humanitarian ties remain an important aspect of the bilateral partnership. Murat Nurtleu emphasized that the 120,000 Koreans living in Kazakhstan serve as a "golden bridge" between the two peoples.
Following successful negotiations, the heads of the foreign ministries signed an action plan for cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea for 2025–2027.
Over the past 18 years, the gross inflow of foreign direct
investment from Korea to Kazakhstan has reached $9.6 billion.
Kazakhstan boasts a broad representation of Korean business. World
famous Korean companies such as Samsung, Hyundai, Kia, Lotte,
Doosan, KT, Posco, LG, Shinhan, and CU are successfully
implementing their projects. In total, about 740 companies with
Korean capital operate in Kazakhstan.
