ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 14. Northern Kazakhstan is preparing for a new stage of energy modernization by strengthening its heat and power systems, Trend reports.
This became known during a working visit of Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov to North Kazakhstan region. During the visit, the minister inspected the progress of the modernization of public utilities and energy infrastructure in the region and reviewed measures to ensure uninterrupted heat supply.
Special attention was devoted to Petropavlovsk CHPP-2 (combined cycle plant), where significant repair and renovation works were carried out. The General Director of JSC “SevKazEnergo” stated that depreciation of the main technical equipment - boiler units and turbine generators - is 57.3 percent. The overhauls of boilers No. 1 and 9, turbines No. 3 and 6, as well as an overhaul of four more turbines were completed in 2024.
Moreover, it was reported that the construction of a 180-meter-high chimney (chimney No. 1) has been completed and is planned to be put into operation by the end of this year. At the same time, rehabilitation work continues on boilers No. 3, 6, and 11, as well as on turbine No. 7.
According to plant management, CHPP-2 is fully stocked with coal and fuel oil. Current reserves include 183,000 tons of coal and 1,833 tons of fuel oil, with fuel supplies being delivered according to schedule.
Timely preparation and restoration work at the combined heat and power plant have ensured the stable operation of equipment and the city’s heating systems. The current heating season is progressing smoothly. The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan plans to downgrade the facility from the "red zone" of risk to the "yellow zone" this year.
In the course of the visit, the Prime Minister also reviewed the progress of the National Project on the modernization of energy housing and communal services. To date, as many as 490 boiler houses function in the North Kazakhstan region, which provides heat to 363 health care facilities, 585 educational institutions, 156 objects of culture and sports, and 1435 apartment houses.
“Ensuring uninterrupted heat supply is under special control of the President. In this direction, the government is implementing a national project to modernize the energy housing and utilities sector. According to forecasts, as a result of this work, the level of wear and tear of engineering networks will decrease to 40 percent, and generating capacity will increase by 7.3 GW. In addition, these projects are aimed at creating 3,500 jobs,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
To note, a total of 55 heat sources were modernized in Kazakhstan last year.
