The Azersun Holding plans to put into operation a plant of paper recycling and final paper product production in the second quarter of 2010, a source in the company said on Aug.17. Earlier the plant was expected to set up by late 2009.
Besides covering the country's paper demands, the plant will play a significant role in staving off environmental pollution.
This is a very large and significant project. Presently, the assembly of modern equipment of the factory is in progress. The overall construction is expected to end in the first or second quarter of 2009, the source said.
The construction of a new plant is very important and the company will accommodate a place to receive waste paper, further to be processed into the final paper product.
Construction of the plant will cost 30 million euro. The plant will be located in Sumgayit.
The plant will be capable of recycling up to 200 tons of used paper per day, or 60,000 tons per year.
The activities of the complex paper industry will be completed with the commissioning of this plant. The company invested in reconstruction of the cardboard factory in Khirdalan in 1996.
Currently, 2.4 tons of wood, 440 tons of water and 7,600 kilowatts of electricity are required to produce one ton of paper. Rise in cost of these materials enable to forecast increase of paper prices. The plant will prevent the increase in costs and allow Azerbaijan to maintain a leading position in the regional paper industry.
The plant will meet the paper demands of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkmenistan and Dagestan. Thirty percent of the product will be consumed by Azerbaijan and 70 percent by neighboring countries.
Azersun Holding was established in 1992. The company is specialized in processing and packaging of tea, vegetable oil, sale and distribution, construction, banking, insurance, manufacturing paper products, meat and vegetables, transport and storage of goods, etc.
