Uzbek President Islam Karimov received Indian Foreign Minister Somanahalli Krishna in Tashkent.
Welcoming the guest, the head of Uzbekistan said that the relations between the two states were developing successfully. They are based on historical, cultural and spiritual closeness of the people of the two countries.
The Uzbek-Indian relations are based on the principles of mutual trust and respect. The two states have established close and constructive contacts on the highest level.
Uzbekistan and India support each other on the international arena and are developing cooperation in the framework of such regional and international organizations like the UN and the SCO.
At the meeting in Tashkent, Somanahalli Krishna expressed India's interest in further development of the mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation with Uzbekistan.
The sides exchanged views on the further expansion of cooperation between the countries, as well as on other issues of mutual interest.
During the two-day visit, the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and India, Vladimir Norov and Somanahalli Krishna held meetings.
Krishna laid a wreath at the monument to L. Shastri, located on the street named in honor of a prominent Indian leader.
The Indian delegation also visited the Institute of Oriental Studies, Academy of Sciences and familiarized with sights of the Uzbek capital.
At present, about 53 Uzbek-Indian joint ventures and representatives of 13 Indian firms and companies operate in Uzbekistan. The companies engaged in production of consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, processing of agriculture production, construction, tourism and trade. Foreign trade turnover between the countries grew by 40.6 percent to $ 600 million in the first half of 2009.
