Reserves in foreign currency up in Georgia

In October, foreign exchange reserves of Georgia increased by 20.2 million GEL compared to September. As of Oct. 31 2009, foreign exchange reserves stood at $1.8 billion, while the figure stood at $1.7 billion in late September, the National Bank reported.

According to the National Bank, the reserve has experienced a growth due to the next tranche issued by the International Monetary Fund to Georgia. At the same time, the National Bank reduced intervention and this have also had an impact on the growth of reserves.

In October 2008, the volume of foreign exchange reserve stood at $1.2 billion.

Official reserve assets of the country, as of Oct. 31, 2009, amount to $2.03 billion.
