The London stock market fell sharply in early trade on Friday as shares were hit by worries over the Greek debt crisis and the prospect of a hung Parliament in Britain, Xinhua reported.
The FTSE 100 index was down 94.38 points, or 1.79 percent, to 5,166.61 points after the opening trade.
Banks saw the heaviest losses, with Royal Bank of Scotland down 4.9 percent after it reported its first-quarter results.
Outside the FTSE 100 index, broadcaster ITV fell 6.7 percent despite reporting a jump in advertising revenues.
