Iran's EMG to commission ceramic tiles plant in Uzbekistan in 2011

The Iranian company EMG will build ceramic tiles plant worth $24 million in Uzbekistan, JSC Uzkurilishmateriallari (Uzstroymateriali), which is the project owner, reported.

The design capacity of the company, which will be built in the Akhangaran district of Tashkent region, will be 4.5 million square meters of tiles per year. The plant will be equipped with the equipment of the Italian company SACMI.

The plant will be commissioned in October 2011.

The project is included in the public investment program for 2010. The project is financed through the Iranian company's own expense.

Uzbekistan's domestic market's demand in ceramic tiles is about five million square meters per year. More than three million square meters of ceramic tiles is imported.

Three ceramic tiles plants are expected to be built in Uzbekistan. Presently, the Korean IS DONGSEO constructs plant worth $27 million for the production of 3.5 million square meters of ceramic tiles per year in the Free Industrial Economic Zone (FIEZ) "Navoi".

Uzbekistan realizes a program on modernization and technical and technological rearmament of enterprises producing construction materials. The program worth 343 million is stipulates implementation of 36 projects in 14 companies. The program that covers 2007-2011yeras is funded by the companies' owns funds in the amount of $157.5 million and foreign investment in the amount of $185.5 million.

The program is expected to increase the country's cement production by 5 times - up to 8.326mln tons compared to 2006, slate - by 1.3 times up to 545 million sheets, ceramic tile - by 1.3 times up to 106,500 pieces of conventional tiles, mineral wool products - by 1.7 times up to 40,000 cubic meters and reinforced concrete - by 10.3 tomes up to 40,000 tons. Annual exports of the industry will increase by 2.2 times - up to $120.63 million.
