According to State Statistics Committee in January-April 2010, the cargo transportation by all transport means made up 59.3 million tons of cargo or 2.4 percent more than 2009.
The private sector share in cargo transportation was 72.3 percent. In January-April, of the total cargo volume transported, 48.4 percent accounted for road transport, 34.1 percent - pipelines, 11.3 percent - rail and 6.2 percent - by sea.
The passenger transportation during the reported period totaled 426.9 million people, which is 3.3 percent more than January-April 2010. In this case, 84.9 percent of passenger transportation was provided by the private sector. Passenger transportation by automobile was 84.9 percent, metro - 14.5 percent.
About 6.7 million tons of cargo was transported by rail, which is 0.5 percent more than similar figure in January-April 2009.
The cargo shipping via sea rose by 3.6 percent, which is 9.9 percent less compared to 2009. All amount of cargo shipping fell on international operations. The volume of cargo processed in Azerbaijani ports was 3.1 million tons in January-April 2010, which is 1.7 times more compared to last year.
The cargo transportation by vehicles in January-April 2010 made up 28.7 mln tons of cargo, or 6.6 % more than the same period of 2009. Passenger transportation comprised 362.6 mln people with 96.6 % people using buses and 3.4% people vehicles.
In January-April 2010, 62.1 mln passengers used metro services or 14.9 % less.
In January-April 2010, the passenger transportation via airways totaled 257,500 people compared to 354,000 in the same period of the last year.
In January-April 2010, 12.2 mln tons of cargo (an increase of 8.5 %) and 50.5 mln passengers (a rise of 7.9%) were transported via the Eurasian corridor.
