As 2011 has been declared the Year of Tourism in Azerbaijan, the Law on entry and exit from country and passports will be amended in order to simplify the rules on visas for tourists arriving in Azerbaijan. On Friday, the Parliament of Azerbaijan discussed the draft amendments to the law.
To get the visa, the foreigners must indicate the purpose of the visit and the length of stay in their statements that are submitted to the embassy or consulate of Azerbaijan in their country of residence or in third countries. Registration of visas is conducted by inter-departmental automated information-search system "Entry-exit and registration".
Visa is provided in an electronic form, not injected in the passport of the tourist, but when passing through border checkpoints, it is presented together with a passport. At the border checkpoints, tourists are registered both during entry and exit.
"Azerbaijan has a high image in the international community, and therefore, the creation of affordable, simplified environment for increasing the flow of tourists into the country is a positive step," said the Vice Speaker of Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov.
Following discussions, MPs voted for the bill.
