The discussion over the establishment of an Association of Insurers of Azerbaijan (AIA) special committee that would have processed the insured's complaints, postponed for indefinite time, AIA Executive Director Azer Aliyev told Trend today. This decision was taken at the AIA founders' meeting, held the day before.
"Unfortunately, we could not come to a consensus on this matter. Everyone understands the importance of work process with customer complaints, no one wants to establish a body that will not fully work. Therefore, it was decided to postpone the discussions for indefinite time," Aliyev said.
The State Insurance Supervision Service under the Azerbaijani Finance Ministry has previously recommended the AIA to create such a committee.
Aliyev said earlier that a number of insurance companies think decisions to be taken by such committee will not be fair and will only defend the interests of those insurance companies whose representatives will join the committee.
"But I disagree with this. In such case, we should display distrust in all committees. But in reality, participants of such structure must be professionals of the insurance business and specialists enjoying authority among all insurers. We must not forget that rights and duties of every insurance company are specified by legal provisions and that interests of insurance companies must be observed solely in accordance with the law", he said earlier.
The association was founded on December 29, 2006. It consists of 29 members. It aims to assist the development of insurance companies, as well as re-insurance companies operating in Azerbaijan, the development of their socio-economic, informational and other programs that enhance their knowledge in these areas.
There are 28 insurance and 1 reinsurance companies in Azerbaijan.
