Kazakhstan intends to include all the projects included in its strategic development plan until 2020 in the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC), Director of the Investment Policy Department of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry Baurzhan Tortayev.
"Kazakhstan is willing to include everything we think to implement in a strategic development plan till 2020 in Kazakhstan in the CAREC Program-2020," he said on the sidelines of the sub-regional meeting on the ADB CAREC Program in Astana last Monday.
Founded in 1997, CAREC is a partnership of 10 countries - Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, the People's Republic of China, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan - and six multilateral institutions: ADB, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank.
He said that the construction of the Autobahn Western Europe-Western China is a striking example of the CAREC Program for Kazakhstan.
He said the World Bank participates in constructing a road section in the Qyzylorda region, and the ADB and EBRD in the Zhambyl region.
He said Kazakhstan started negotiations with the ADB on financing business support programs in 2010.
According to the ministry, a new CAREC program calculated until 2020 will be discussed within the two-day international conference in Astana. The draft of the new program will include the projects on trade facilitation, development of transport and energy.
"The draft program will be amended," WB Senior Natural Resources Specialist Simon Croxton said on the sidelines of the conference. "Then the document will be presented at a CAREC meeting of senior representatives in Baku in June. It will be reconsidered by the leaders of the member- countries."
