Drought spreads through Iran

A drought has affected 74 percent of Iran in past nine months, Iranian Drought Center Chief Abbas Ranjbar said today, IRNA reported.

"Over the past nine months, five percent of Iran has experienced a very extreme drought, 10.8 percent extreme drought and 22.6 percent moderate drought," he said.

Around 27.2 percent of the country faced mild drought and 8.6 percent experienced very low level of drought.

It's predicted the rainfall reach normal level in autumn with delays however the rainfall level increases in winter.

Recent reports indicates Iran is getting closer to water crisis while it faces reduce in level of rainfall to 180 millimeters on current solar year.

Earlier, officials warned that the drought had spread throughout the country, particularly in the central regions, increasing at a rate of
76 percent and creating serious disasters.
