Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) (Kazakhstan's Railways) will transship abroad one million tons of grain in December. Thus, the grain transshipment target for 2011 will be executed, the company reported on Wednesday.

"Grain transshipment in all directions has risen since September and reached its peak in December. The amount of the grain exported by railway since September 2011 is by 147 per cent more compared to volume exported in the same period of 2010," the company said.

Moreover, flour export by railway increased. KTZ exported one million tons grain in September to December 2011 compared to 655,000 tons exported in the same period of 2010.

In total, KTZ has transshipped 67,550 carriages of grain since September.

Earlier, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry said Kazakhstan will not execute its plan to export grain by railway in December due to lack of wagons.

"It has been requested to ship 1.1 million tons of grain until the end of December. However, 480,900 tons of grain was shipped for export on December 20. It makes up 43.7 percent of the total grain volumes indicated in the protocol of the shipment meeting," the Ministry added.
