Georgia, Tbilisi, April 24 /Trend N.Kirtzkhalia/
GDP in Georgia increased by 6 percent in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period last year, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said at a government meeting on Tuesday.
"It is preliminary figure for the first quarter and I think that the rate of growth will exceed that figure after the announcement of first quarter results," he said.
The prime minister said it's a good trend, as forecasted GDP growth defined at 5 percent in the budget.
Gilauri stressed that deflation of two percent was also observed in the first quarter of the year.
"It means that prices in world markets have stabilized and, instead of last year's inflation at 15 percent rate during this period, we have deflation, and the prospects are encouraging," he said.
