Iran forex center requests surpass 8,300

The Central Bank of Iran has announced that 8,389 requests have been submitted to the forex center so far, ISNA reported.

The new foreign exchange center, which was officially inaugurated on September 24, allows importers of goods such as truck tires, construction equipment and synthetic fibers to buy dollars at a rate two percent cheaper than the street rate at any given time.

The U.S. dollar was sold at the price of 24,584 rials at the forex center on Thursday and the euro was presented at 31,572 rials.

By November 4, over 4,000 requests worth $1.3 billion have been submitted to the center, Arsalan Fathipour, the chairman of the Majlis Economic Committee had announced.

The government has set an official reference rate of 12,260 rials to the dollar, but only a limited amount of foreign exchange is available at this rate.
