TEHRAN, Iran, Sept.7
Trend:
Secretary of Iran's Freeway Investor Companies Workgroup, Khodayar Khashe has announced the project to construct some 500 km of freeways by the end of the current Iranian year.
"The largest volume of freeway construction work, including both construction from scratch and the semi-finished freeways, was done during the current government (the second term of Hassan Rouhani's government started in 2018), he said, Trend reports via IRNA.
“The cost of construction of each kilometer of a freeway on mountainous routes has now reached $71 million, which the government construction budgets cannot afford,” he said. “But the operations never stopped working due to sharp rise in foreign exchange rate," he explained.
Referring to the inauguration of the “Isfahan Eastern Bypass Freeway" which will be put into operation soon with the presence of the president, Khashe said that the construction of bypasses has an important role in reducing traffic volume in cities and controlling fuel consumption.
“The Isfahan Eastern Bypass Freeway , in addition to the 40-kilometer road to the south, also prevents traffic jams inside the province,” he added.
“This freeway is the central part of the north-south corridor of the country,” he said. “The corridor starts from Tabriz and extends to Bushehr.”
“Currently, the most important bypass freeway project in the country is the southern bypass project of Tehran,” Khashe` said, adding that the Tehran Bypass Freeway prevents the traffic jams to Alborz and Tehran provinces and will reduce pollution in two big cities.
