Azerbaijan's industrial production shows decline

The volume of industrial production in Azerbaijan amounted to 24.7 billion manat ($14.5 billion) in the period from January through August 2020, Trend reports on Sept.14 referring to the report of the State Statistics Committee.

According to the committee, over the reporting period, the volume of industrial production decreased by 3.1 percent, compared to the same period of 2019.

Meanwhile, production in the non-oil sector rose by 13.6, while production in the oil sector edged down by 4.9 percent.

From January through August this year, in the mining sector, industrial production made up 60.7 percent of the total volume, in the processing sector – 33.1 percent, in the production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam - 5.3 percent, and in the water supply, waste treatment and processing sector - 0.9 percent, the committee noted.

In the sphere of production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam, production increased by 9.7 percent, while water supply, waste treatment and processing declined by 1.7 percent over the year.

In the processing sector, the production of pharmaceutical products surged by 9.5 times, the metallurgical production - 2.3 times, the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers - by 96.4 percent, machinery and equipment – 50.4 percent.

Manufacturing of tobacco products grew by 38.7 percent, production of computer, electronic and optical products - 36.8 percent, clothing - 32 percent, paper and cardboard production – 30.6 percent, rubber and plastic products – 23.3 percent, chemical products – 13.4 percent, printing products – 11.9 percent, textile industry - by 4.7 percent, production of electrical equipment - by 3.4 percent, and petroleum products - by 2.2 percent.

The production of foodstuffs declined by 0.8 percent, construction materials - by 1.8 percent, finished metal products - by 3.8 percent, the production of leather and leather goods, footwear - by 6.3 percent, drinks - by 9 percent, furniture production - by 19.3 percent, work on installation and repair of machinery and equipment - by 44.6 percent.

In 2019, Azerbaijan’s industrial production showed growth by 4.3 percent.
