Azerbaijani State Veterinary Service Examines Wild Animals in Khachmaz Region

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr.S.Babayeva / A laboratory examination of the blood samples from animals in the Gardashoba village of Khachmaz region of Azerbaijan has revealed the presence of rabies. Yolchu Khanvali, the Press-Secretary of the State Veterinary Service at the Agriculture Ministry of Azerbaijan, has stated that no report of wild animals attacking local people and livestock has recently been registered.

Earlier as a result of an attack of wild animals in Gardashoba village which is surrounded by forests, four children and an old man have been bitten by animals. They are currently receiving treatment in a hospital. Khanvali stated that all the cattle were vaccinated in order to prevent the spread of the rabies virus amongst the cattle.

A child died from rabies in the Nefchala region. "The death of the child could have been avoided had the parents taken the child to hospital sooner," the press-secretary noted.

The State Veterinary Service, the Executive Administration of Khachmaz region, the Hunters Community, Health Ministry and Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry are involved in the course of action.

Rabies is a virus which attacks the nervous system, resulting in death.
