Azerbaijan plans to build a new Tovuz hydroelectric power station worth about $1.2 billion at the expense of the Public budget of the country, said Vice President of Azerenerji (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) Marlen Askerov. "Today, the realization of this energy project is in turn," said Askerov.
"During the construction of hydroelectric station, significant amount of resources will be spent on the preparation of the reservoir for the construction of the dam, so huge investments are required for the realization of such projects," said Askerov. The capacity of the new hydroelectric power station will be 380 megawatts.
"Construction of the station depends on the amount of funds that will be laid each year in the Public budget," said vice-president.
Today the total installed capacity of power system in Azerbaijan is more than 5,000 megawatts, and the total capacity of power plants under construction will be about 1,500 megawatts.
It consists of three thermal power stations, the total production of which makes up 72 percent of generated power capacity, five thermal power plants with a capacity of 10 percent of the power system and six hydroelectric power stations (about 18 percent). The length of the lines is more than 100,000 kilometers.
Eight hydroelectric power stations function in the energy system in Azerbaijan.
