Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 18 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

Building gas-compression facilities at the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic's (SOCAR) Kulevi Oil Terminal in Georgia is a rational choice, an energy source told Trend . According to the source, constructing the facilities at Kulevi will be cheaper than building similar installations elsewhere.

"It would be cheaper because the terminal is equipped with all the necessary infrastructure," the source said. "There is a railway, dock, labor and all the communications are fully established. From this point of view, the terminal's construction would be a good choice here."

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said Azerbaijan is considering various options to supply its own gas to Europe to diversify the continent's fuel supplies. If one route passes via Turkey, another option is to build gas-compression facilities at the Kulevi terminal, as well as to transport fuel to Bulgaria and Romania and then distribute to Europe

SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov and Bulgarian Bulgartransgaz Company Executive Director Ivan Drenovichki have signed a memorandum of understanding on the transshipment of natural gas.
